Nights off in May and June
Sorry for the short notice, but we cannot fence on three nights in the next few weeks, as the school will be using the sports hall. The nights affected are:
- Tuesday 15th May
- Tuesday 29th May
- Tuesday 12th June
Apologies for the lack of notice, but we were only written to on May 4th! Other than these dates, we should be open right up to our normal August break.

DSFC Awards Night!
Wednesday 9th May
The Hop Pole, Droitwich
Details to be firmed up, but it looks like costing a fiver each – which will include some of Tim’s highly recommended food (Chilli & Crusty Bread, Chinese Curry or similar PLUS gateau or cheese board to follow).
Tim’s excellent beer, or other refreshments, will be available as usual at the bar (you’ll have to buy this yourself though – what do you expect for five quid!!). Tickets will be available for purchase in advance (so we know how many to cater for) but for now … PLEASE NOTE THE DATE.

No Junior Fencing Tuesday 3rd April
Our regular fencing coaches will be away next week and we also anticipate a low turnout due to school holidays. Because of this we have decided to cancel the Junior fencing session on Tuesday 3rd April. Fencing will recommence on 10th April.
Seniors will be able to fence from an earlier time this week, so feel free to turn up at 7:30pm, or even 7:00 if you’re feeling enthusiastic. After all, Dave will be sitting there feeling all lonely!

County Championships - 31st March 2012
The County Championships will be at Bromsgrove Prep School on the weekend of 31 March – 1 April.
They also incorporate the Jubilee Foil, which is a yearly Junior foil event run by the County. For details of either of these events, contact Hannah Chenneour – see our calendar for details.

Beginners’ Courses
Next course Tuesday 21st February 2012
We run Beginners’ Courses roughly twice a year at the moment.
These run for six weekly sessions, taking you through the basics of fencing with a foil, which is the first weapon we and most other clubs recommend you learn. Throughout this time, this session is led by our BAF qualified coaches, who take the group from absolute beginners through to the first British Fencing Association proficiency award. The cost is £40 for the six sessions, which includes all the safety gear, coaching and the BFA Grade 1 Foil award.
All fencing and safety equipment is provided by the club, you will need to wear normal fitness clothing – t-shirt, trainers and tracksuit bottoms (no shorts, please).
The next beginners’ course will be starting on Tuesday February 21st 2012. If there are not enough for a full course, we will still run it on an individual coaching basis with the smaller group.
If you’re interested, email the secretary with your name, age and contact details.
