The course runs for four weekly sessions, taking you through the basics of fencing with a foil, which is the first weapon we and most other clubs recommend you learn.
Each session is led by our BAF Coach, Professor Louisa Miller, who will take the group from absolute beginners through to the first British Fencing proficiency award (this will require a demonstration to the instructor of the basic principles you have learned – however taking this award is not compulsory). Other qualified coaches and
senior club members will also be involved in follow-up work during the evening so that beginners can build on the skills that Prof. Miller has introduced.
All fencing and safety equipment (weapon, mask, jacket, glove etc.) is provided by the club, and you will need to wear normal fitness clothing - t-shirt, trainers and tracksuit bottoms are ideal (no shorts,
and preferably not jeans please as these restrict movement). There is some brief information on what to bring to your first session here. Toilet and changing facilities are available if you need them.
The cost is £28 for the four sessions of coaching/tuition, payable on the first evening – the fee includes all the safety gear and coaching.
The next course begins on May 1st - if you're interested, please email our secretary (firstname.lastname@example.org).
